As part of security for a loan, it is not uncommon for a lender to require that someone associated with the borrower provides a personal guarantee in support of the borrower's indebtedness to the lender.
A guarantee is a promise by one party (the guarantor) to answer to another (the lender) for the obligations of a third party (the borrower). In other words a guarantee exposes a guarantor to potential liability for someone else's debts without necessarily there being a direct benefit to the guarantor.

Mondayisation of Waitangi Day and ANZAC Day |

As it currently stands:
- New Zealanders have 11 public holidays a year; and
- Six of those public holidays can occur on any day of the week. The Holidays Act 2003 provides that four such public holidays (being New Years Day, the day after New Years Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day) are enjoyed on the following working day should they actually fall on a weekend. The remaining 2 public holidays (being Waitangi Day and ANZAC Day) are observed on 6 February and 25 April respectively and if they fall on a weekend then no additional holiday is provided for.
